Equine Internships and Externships

Internships at EVH begin June 1st.

The primary duties of our interns include: daily treatment of all hospitalized cases, primary on call emergency duty, management of cases, assisting in surgery and daily record keeping for hospitalized patients.

This internship is fast paced and challenging. It is important to us that each intern has a positive experience and is able to learn hands on. Interns are encouraged to think on their feet and manage cases as much as possible. Interns will always have back up veterinarians on call with them and available to work up any case with them or to answer questions.

Senior veterinary students wishing to apply for an internship at Elgin Veterinary Hospital should submit a letter of intent, three letters of recommendation and resume to Dr. Norton or Dr. Flesch at the EVH address no later than November 15, 2017. A complete description of the internship program can be found on the AAEP Avenues website.

Externs are accepted at any time of the year and students from any level of their veterinary training are considered. We strive to provide a quality experience for each extern. Students are encouraged to immerse themselves in the day-to-day workings of the clinic in order to get a good feel for how the hospital runs. An on-site apartment is available for those who need lodging and transportation to and from the airport can be arranged if necessary. The nearest airport is in Austin just 30 minutes away.  Please see the AAEP Avenues website for additional information.

Visits or tours can be scheduled by calling the clinic at 512-285-3395 or by emailing Dr. Norton or Dr. Flesch at evhequinestudents@gmail.com.
