Piper Norton, DVM, DACVIM is originally from Minden, Louisiana and attended LSU for college and veterinary school. Following completion of veterinary school in 2007, Dr. Norton completed an equine internship at Elgin Veterinary Hospital and stayed on as an associate for 2 more years. She then moved north to College Station in 2010 to expand her education with a large animal internal medicine residency at Texas A&M and is board certified in large animal internal medicine. During her residency, Dr. Norton pursued additional training in foal medicine by traveling to Australia to learn from the neonatology experts at Scone Equine Hospital. She has also completed research in foal immunity and camelid hyperthermia. During her residency, Dr. Norton received 2012 and 2013 TVMF Earl Waddell Memorial Scholarship Awards, the 2013 SCAAEP Award, and the 2013 TVMA Auxillary Clinical Resident Award for excellence in critical patient care and teaching. In August of 2013, she rejoined the team at Elgin Veterinary Hospital. Her professional interests include treating critical cases such as diarrhea and pneumonia, critical neonates, chronic colic, endocrine problems, and she also enjoys performing routine health maintenance to help prevent illness. Outside of work, Dr. Norton enjoys showing saddleseat, fishing, cooking, and spending time with her family.
